“Our primary colors are navy and sky blue. Both colors represent clear thought and are synonymous with intelligence, communication and trust. White can be used as a background color for content-heavy applications. 80% black should be used for body copy or divider graphics.”

4. Tints — 75 / 50 / 25 over white [BG25 p.24]

Section titled “4. Tints — 75 / 50 / 25 over white [BG25 p.24]”

“Tints of the Patterson color palette are an option if used sparingly.”

The guide prints unlabelled swatches with no percentages and no hexes. Rendering p.24 and sampling the vector swatch fills shows a uniform 75% / 50% / 25% ramp over white across every row. The hexes below are that ramp applied to the published base hexes; they land within ±1 of the printed swatches.

5. Digital / WCAG-adjusted palette [DS20 p.7–8], shipped in [DPL]

Section titled “5. Digital / WCAG-adjusted palette [DS20 p.7–8], shipped in [DPL]”

“A digital color system has been identified to comply with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards.” “When used on a white or light grey background, link blue should be subbed for our primary sky blue color.”

Swatch Name Hex Where [DS20] says to use it
269BCB Digital sky blue #269BCB Primary interactive; sky blue on dark backgrounds
147CBD Link blue #147CBD Links / tertiary text links on white or light gray
9B9B9B Medium gray #9B9B9B Secondary text
F8F8F8 Light gray #F8F8F8 Backgrounds (with white)

512E91 Purple, on light #512E91 Accent
9660F3 Purple, on dark/navy #9660F3 Accent

[IMG20 p.2] reinforces that digital sky is a distinct value:

“Be sure to export .SVG from the .RGB icon file (Note: don’t convert the CMYK file to RGB and then export — it will convert to the incorrect Digital SkyBlue color).”

6. Status / alert colors [DPL], states named at [DS20 p.37]

Section titled “6. Status / alert colors [DPL], states named at [DS20 p.37]”

[DS20] names four message-box states — Positive, Error, Neutral, Urgent — but publishes no hexes. The shipped values are:

Swatch State Hex Selector
D0021B Error / danger #D0021B .message-box--error, .error-text, form-error borders
0CA50F Success / positive #0CA50F .message-box--success (= [DS20] accent green)
003767 Urgent #003767 fill, #FFFFFF text .message-box--alert
F5A623 Warning #F5A623 .with--text-orange, .eyebrow--orange

[TBD: no status colors appear in the 2025 Brand Guide. These four are implementation values from the production DPL, not brand-published values. Confirm with Corporate Marketing before treating them as canonical.]

  • Icons must never use colors outside the brand palette [BG25 p.42].

  • Buttons may use palette colors other than sky “as long as the button stands out in the context of the design” [BG25 p.57].

  • Video full-frame grounds [BG25 p.52]:

    Unit Ground
    Patterson Dental sky #00A8E1
    Patterson Veterinary navy #003767
Patterson Companies (corporate) and AHI white #FFFFFF
  • QR codes: keep the pixel field a single color, preferably black [BG25 p.51].

  • Never alter logo color; never place the logo over an image [BG25 p.20].

Combination Ratio Verdict
White on sky #00A8E1 2.3:1 Fails WCAG AA at every text size
White on digital sky #269BCB 3.4:1 Passes AA for large text and non-text UI components only

[TBD: no WCAG conformance target (AA vs AAA) or version (2.0 vs 2.1/2.2) is stated in the 2025 Brand Guide. DS20 targets WCAG 2.0 only.]
